Chapter Strategic Plan: July 2004 to June 2007






All references to Alzheimer's disease will refer to
Alzheimer's disease and related memory disorders.

Mission

To eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research and to enhance care and support for individuals, their families, and caregivers

Goal:

To increase awareness of the Alzheimer's epidemic; mobilize resources for public understanding, research and care; and position the Association as the leading source of information in the National Capital Area.

Strategies:
  • Develop and implement an annual integrated communications program that includes consistent key messages about Alzheimer's disease and the Association.
  • Target public awareness efforts to increase community support (collaborators, funders, donors, volunteers) of the Association and its mission by at least 10% annually.
  • Explore working with Public and Private schools to promote awareness among and support for children.

Goal:

To improve the quality of Alzheimer's care, support, and services across all communities and increase the number of opportunities for individuals to secure support and make informed decisions about care and services.

Strategies:
  • Improve the quality of the Association's core services to better meet individuals' needs and to improve their ability to make informed decisions about care and services.
  • Expand the core services to provide access throughout the Chapter service territory.
  • Increase the number of people accessing the Association's core services.
  • Increase the proportion of individuals from diverse ethnic communities utilizing Association core services.

Goal:

To support the progress in Alzheimer research by increasing commitment at the national and local levels.

Strategies:
  • Increase awareness for funding of bio-medical and care giving research.
  • Increase awareness and understanding of current research findings.

Goal:

To build organizational capability throughout the Association to ensure the most effective and efficient foundation for carrying out the mission.

Strategies:
  • Improve the financial stability of the Chapter.
  • Build a Chapter-wide structure that has the infrastructure to meet organizational standards and effectively deliver core services and other programs.

  • Helpline - counseling, information, resource and referral service
  • Support Groups - Caregivers
  • Caregiver Education - conferences, community education and speakers bureau
  • Professional Skill Building Training - 6 hour, 4 hour, 2 hour in-services
  • Advocacy - lobbying, grassroots development, issue-based workgroups & Action Alerts
  • Safe Return - registration and training
  • Volunteer orientation and training program
  • Chapter Web site - promotion, e-commerce and information exchange
  • Health Fairs
  • Newsletters - print and electronic
  • Employee/Employer Education program
  • Maintain Your Brain (program promotion and program activities)
